BASIC CONE SIX GLAZE

This is a very good natured cone six glaze for cone 4 to 7 temperatures....the variations listed give wide control over its character. The minerals listed are sourced from New Zealand and Australia but substitutions can be tried in other countries ie Ferro frit is the same as frit 3134

To the above, add one part iron oxide for a tenmoku-type glaze or coloured ceramic stains by trial and error

And then browsing Emmanuel Cooper: "A true "Tenmoku" (sic) glaze has a light red brown rim and ridges, contrasting with a dark brown or black glaze... at its most handsome on a light coloured fairly dense body... usually needs to soak at the end of the firing... hard to distinguish between reduced or oxidised tenmokus".

Below, the variaitions of the basic glaze use more clay instead of feldspar -- this should give a more velvet surface and definitely more mat. Stains can be added by trial and error
